Why hills are different

What changes at altitude.

A hill venue is a beautiful place to get married and an unforgiving place to cater: no wholesale market nearby, a last kilometre one lane wide, and the venue's own power already spoken for. Most caterers discover this on the wedding day. We plan for it before we quote.

Planned in advance Approach road, unloading point, power and water, all factored into the plan.
Gas planned into the trip Hill venues cannot lend cylinders, so the fuel is planned to travel up with the crew.
Generator load in writing Agreed with the venue beforehand. Counters do not share the DJ's phase.
Service in the cold Covered counters, hot holding equipment, chai running all night.
We plan to arrive early We plan to arrive the day before, so the drive up the mountain is done well ahead of your wedding day.
Menus tuned for altitude Fry counters behave differently at 2,000 metres. We plan the menu around it.

Plan a hill wedding

Tell us the venue.

The venue name does most of the work early. It tells us the road, the altitude and the power situation before the first call. If the date belongs to a client rather than to your own family, the worry is sharper: a hill wedding cannot be rescued on the day, and whatever did not travel up the road is not going to arrive. That is what the recce, the crew coming up the day before and the gas riding up with them are for.

Before you ask

Questions hill hosts always ask.

How much notice does a hill date need?

72 hours at the very minimum, and far more during the November to February season. One wedding a date applies in the hills too, so the earlier the venue is named, the better.

What does the site recce check?

The approach road and where it narrows, the unloading point, power and water. It happens before we confirm, so the quote you sign reflects the venue as it actually is.

Is travel to the hills charged separately?

Travel and crew accommodation are charged on actuals and itemised in the written quote, no lump sums, no surprises on the day.

Which hill stations do you cover from Chandigarh?

Shimla, Mussoorie, Kasauli and Kufri are all recent service addresses, alongside Solan, Chail, Dharamshala, Palampur and Dalhousie. The crew and the kit leave from the Chandigarh Tricity, so the drive up is planned as part of the job.

What if the venue has no kitchen we can use?

We do not need one. A live counter is its own kitchen: the counters, the gas and the crew all come up with us, and everything is cooked in front of your guests rather than waiting in a chafing dish for a hotel kitchen to free up. What we need from the venue is floor space, one power point per counter and water.
